Discussion running for SUST-SAU‍‍`s VC appointment

After the fall of the government, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) and Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) resigned as vice-chancellors. Since then these two posts are vacant. There is speculation about who is being appointed. The teachers say that it is not possible to open halls, start administrative activities and conduct class-exams until someone is given responsibility. The Vice-Chancellor needs to be appointed as soon as possible. It is known that SUST and SAU may get new vice-chancellors next week.

Names of at least 12 teachers who can become vice-chancellors in these two universities are heard. The names of five teachers are being heard for the post of SUST vice-chancellor. Among them is Professor Dr Mozammel Haque of Food Engineering and Technology Department. Another person in the discussion is the head of the mathematics department, Professor Md Sajedul Karim.

Apart from this, the names of Professor Mohammad Iqbal of Industrial Production and Engineering Department, Professor A ZM Manzoor Rashid of Forest and Environment Department and Professor Ashraf Uddin of Mathematics Department are heard. Among them, Manzoor Rashid is not associated with any political party.

SAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Jamal Uddin Bhuiyan resigned on August 21. On that day Professor Md Siddiqul Islam was temporarily given the financial and administrative responsibility of the university. Shahinul Islam, Deputy Secretary of Government General University Branch of the Ministry of Education said that Professor Siddiqul Islam is performing financial and administrative responsibilities. No one has been given the charge of vice-chancellor in SUST yet.

Jamaat affiliated teacher, professor of microbiology and immunology department ATM Mahabub Elahi is in discussions to become the new vice-chancellor of SAU. BNP supporters include Professor Emdadul Haque of Animal Nutrition Department, Professor M Rashed Hasnat of Poultry Science Department and Dr Masudur Rahman of Pathology Department. Apart from this, the names of Professor Nasreen Sultana of Department of Surgery and Theriogenology and Professor Asaduzzaman Sarkar of Department of Agricultural Extension Education who played a role in the anti-discrimination movement are also being heard.
